Brake System
![]() |
When front wheel disc brakes were first introduced this was a milestone in safe, reliable braking control of motor vehicles. However, operation of disc brakes creates extremely high temperatures which cause rapid oxidation of brake fluid. Anti Lock systems are even more sensitive to fluid deterioration. Brake fluid is formulated with corrosion inhibitors to protect the hydraulic system. Over time these inhibitors are depleted and fluid becomes oxidized. If that isn’t bad enough brake fluid is extremely hydroscopic, meaning it absorbs water. This also diminishes the fluid’s ability to dissipate heat when the brakes are activated.
